Top 3 Causes of Eye Infections in Cats

Cats can be really adorable as pets since they are notorious yet cute creatures. We humans have been living with cats since long and now both – humans and cats have evolved in a way to live in harmony with each other.

However just like us humans, our pets too require a periodic health check-up so as to save a visit to an emergency pet care service. Cats commonly develop eye infections and it’s important to keep a tab on them before the situation goes awry. Following are some common ways of preventing eye infections in cats:

            Mucous build-up – Mucous build-up in eyes can readily lead to eye infections. Hence, to avoid it, wipe your cat’s eyes gently with a damp cloth. If this is not practised, the mucous might get inside the cat’s eyes causing some sort of infection.

2      Eye protection – Whenever your cat undergoes a chemical treatment for its skin, make sure that your cat’s eyes are protected. Thus, before any such treatment like a flea dip or bath, always apply some sort of neutralizing ointment on your cat’s eyes.

3.      Cat hair – Cat’s eyes can also be irritated if they come in contact with anything even if they are the cat’s own hair! Constant irritation due to excessive hair on the cat can cause severe infection which can force you to see an emergency vet care clinic.
